Mariaville- Mary C. Hughes of Batter Street passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness. She would have been 87 years old on July 4th .
Mary , also known as “Mom” was born in Rotterdam in 1931 a daughter of the late John and Lorena Smith VanValkenburg. She graduated from Draper High School at the young age of 16 and furthered her education at the Ellis School of Nursing graduating as an RN and began a career she greatly loved ; retiring in the mid 1990s from Glendale Nursing Home Glenville.
She married her beloved husband David Hughes in 1952.
Mary had a great zest for life and enjoyed many activities. She was a member of the RN Club, The Daughters of the American Revolution , The Duanesburg Historical Society, The Rosary Society of Our Lady of Fatima Church Delanson where she was also a 40 year plus communicant a member of a Civil War Society and greatly enjoyed reading ,sewing cooking and crafting.
She is survived by her children Mary Frances Hughes of Mariaville, David(Erin) Hughes of Mariaville, Peter (Robin) Hughes of Coeymans Hollow and Ann Jacquard (Frank Dalton) of Mariaville , her grandchildren Christopher (Amanda) Hughes, Shannon (Mark) Karl, Timothy ( Brianna Golgoski ) Hughes,Kimberly Hughes, Patrick Hughes ,Megan Jacquard, Jesse ( Ellen) Jacquard and John Jacquard and her great grandchildren Greyson Karl, Lucas Karl, Declan Karl, Nora Hughes, Bridget Jacquard and James Jacquard.
Mary was predeceased by her husband David in 2006, a great grandson Jacob David Hughes and her siblings Eleanor and Donald.
Family and friends are invited to call at the White VanBuren Funeral Home 1779 Main Street Delanson on Friday July 6, 2018 from 6 pm to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church Alexander Road Delanson on July 7, 2018. Interment will follow at Mariaville Cemetery , Mariaville.
