Richard E. Weakley, 86, of Mariaville, passed peacefully at home on Sunday, August 19, 2018.
Born in Mindon, NY, Richard was the son of the late Raymond and Katherine Blakeslee Weakley. He attended Mariaville School and Draper School in Rotterdam.
Richard was employed as a Mechanic with Schenectady County and retired as a Supervisor in 1988 after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Mariaville Vol. Fire Department for 60 years and served as past chief and trustee. He also served his country as a member of the Air National Guard for 22 years retiring in 1972, and later with the Army National Guard. Although Richard was a busy man, he enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling with Ethel in their motor home.
In addition to his parents, Richard was also predeceased by his son Richard “Ricky” Weakley Jr., his sister Olive Mergenthaler and his brother, Gary Weakley.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Ethel Beacraft Weakley, two sons, Dennis (Donna) Weakley Jr. of Schenectady and Jeffrey Weakley of Mariaville, his brothers and sisters, Raymond (Joyce) Weakley of Florida, Emma Wilson of Tribes Hill, Joan Czernis of Pattersonville, Jeanette (James) Swanker of Tribes Hill, Gene Weakley of Syracuse, James (Carol) Weakley of Pattersonville, Geraldine (Fred) Briggs of Malta, Diane (James) Jones of Amsterdam, Judy (Gene) Yauchler of Florida, Roger (Sue) Weakley of Pattersonville and David (Delores) Weakley of MA., two grandchildren, Dennis Weakley Jr and Zachery Weakley , two great grandchildren, Abigail and Owen, as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5-7 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave.
Funeral services will begin on Saturday, 10 am at the funeral home.
Burial, with military honors will be at Schenectady Memorial Park Cemetery in Rotterdam.
