William " Bill" W. Barnes Jr.

Duanesburg -William “Bill” W. Barnes Jr ; 80, died at the Baptist Health Rehabilitation Center Scotia on June 28, 2018 after a brief illness.

Bill, born in Duanesburg in 1937, was the son of the late William and Mildred Mooney Barnes. He grew up in the Duanesburg area and graduated from Delanson Free School in 1955. He served in the United States Navy Reserve.

Bill served with the New York State Police Department for 24 years and retired as a Sr. Investigator with the BCI. After retirement, he was the Schenectady County Sheriff from 1990 to 1998.

He is survived by his beloved wife Linda (Mayberry) Barnes, his children Diana Lockwood, Mesa Arizona, Bill (Sally) Barnes, Austin Tx, Tim (Margot) Barnes, Duanesburg, and Mary (Mark) Zanta, Scotia; 11 grandchildren, one great grandson, sister Beverly Spreckles, and many nieces and nephews.

Bill was predeceased by his daughter Kelly and sister, Norma Egelston.

Family and friends are invited to call at the White VanBuren Funeral Home, 1779 Main Street, Delanson on Saturday June 30, 2018 from 12 pm to 3:30 pm. Funeral services will begin at 3:30 pm. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Duanesburg Volunteer Ambulance Corp.
