Eric Kass Obituary

3/21/1947-5/20/2021

Swiftly and into the waiting arms of Jesus, Eric A Kass left this earth on May 20th, 2021 to live in his eternal home. Those he has left behind feel his absence keenly and though we grieve, we do not grieve without the hope and knowledge that we will join him one day, as is promised by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Eric was born to Willis & Merle (Drije) Kass and grew up in Lombard, Illinois, where he attended Glenbard East High School until his graduation in 1965 when he entered the United States Marine Corp. While traveling by ship to Vietnam, the orders for Eric and 300 other marines changed at the last minute sending them to Okinawa. Eric would credit that change in course to saving his life during the Vietnam conflict. Following his service in the Marines , Eric attended  Sangaman State University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and as books were always one of his joys here on earth he furthered  his education by achieving a Master’s of Library Science from Rosary College in Illinois. Eric enjoyed his career as a librarian, making fast friends with library patrons and being continually surrounded by the books he loved.  By Gods Providence, Eric moved to New York State where he met his wife of 25 years,  Laurie (Shafer). They built an abundantly blessed life together with love and God’s help raising a family, being involved in church, gardening, farm life, selling his weavings at farmer markets, entertaining family & friends, celebrating God’s creation and loving their neighbor as themselves. Eric was a gentle, kind, intelligent, and loving man as well as a faithful husband, son, brother, father, grandfather and friend.

Eric is survived by his beloved wife Laurie, his daughter Seong Kitsos, his daughter Heather Moran (David),son Jason Reed, son Dustin Reed (Tori), and 10 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Wendy Paley (Jim) and his sister-in-love Celeste Ackermann. Eric is predeceased by his wife Diann (Ackermann) and their daughter Ingrid Nancy, his father Willis Kass and his mother Merle.

Eric was a faithful member, elder, and encourager to the Body of Christ at Duanesburg Reformed Presbyterian Church. He will be sorely missed.

Memorial Serivce is to be held on June 12th, 2021 10am at Duanesburg Reformed Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to DRPC of Duanesburg or City Mission of Schenectady.
