Duanesburg - Kerri Maner, passed away peacefully after a short but intense battle with acute leukemia on November 17th, 2021. She was at home and surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 28, 1946, she spent her 75th birthday in the hospital shortly after her diagnosis.
Most of all, Kerri loved her family, including her beloved dogs and horses. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Frank; her son Jon and daughter-in-law Mary; her daughter Julie and daughter-in-law Wendy; her brother Barry and sister-in-law Gail; and her beloved niece and nephews Jeff, Rachel, and Brett and his wife Sherri. She treasured her time growing up on Far Rockaway Beach and her years in Charlottesville Virginia as a student at UVa. Cheering on the UVa men’s basketball team to their first national championship in 2019 was one of her greatest joys.
Kerri touched so many people while she was on this earth. Her tenure as a math and computer science teacher at Edgemont High School allowed her to affect many young people, something that was so important to her. She co-founded the Edgemont Builders Club in the 1980s, a student volunteer organization, and a great source of pride to her. She was known as a miracle working SAT math tutor, a caring counselor to all, and almost never missed one of her children’s sporting events. Her infectious laugh, wonderful sense of humor, and compassionate humanity defined her.
Upon learning of her diagnosis, Kerri turned to her family and said “Well, you wouldn’t be able to mourn something that didn’t mean something in the first place.” She felt blessed for her family and her fulfilled life.
Her family is grateful that she was able to enjoy her 50th wedding anniversary with her soulmate Frank, and her brother Barry’s 80th birthday celebration. They ask that you please take a moment and consider the mark she might have made on your world and say a little blessing.
