Richard Schager Obituary

Schenectady - Richard “Rick” Schager, 55, died unexpectedly on December 19, 2020 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.

He was born November 3, 1965 in Schenectady, the son of Richard and Pollyanna (Roach) Schager, who predeceased him in November 2018 and October 1992.

Rick grew up in Delanson, NY and graduated from Duanesburg High School, Class of 1984.  He was a maintenance worker for Rotterdam Square Mall for several years until he retired.

Rick’s interests and hobbies were model trains, semi-trucks, airplanes and race cars. He learned how to play the guitar and had a vast fondness for older country music, amongst his very favorites Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings.  Rick also was an avid John Wayne fan from westerns to war films.

In 1998, Rick met his soul mate and life partner Ramona Coombs.  Always together and completed each perfectly for 22 years.

Rick was a volunteer fireman for Quaker Street Fire Dept for a brief time, accepting the challenge of training with a brave heart.

Rick will be fondly remembered for his love of the railroad, his undeniable signature hamburger that bested anyone’s and his love of food…but not vegetables!

Quiet and gentle though strongly stubborn, Rick had the sweetest heart.

He is survived by his sister, Deborah Schager-Winchester of Cobleskill, nieces, nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

There will be no services for Rick at this time.
