Obituary

Duanesburg – Terry J. Dykeman, 68, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born in Niskayuna, Terry was the youngest son of the late Frederick W. Dykeman and Margaret L. (Beretz) Dykeman.

He graduated from Duanesburg High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Throughout his life Terry worked as a mechanic, a jack-of-all-trades for General Drywall, and a long-haul truck driver, later retiring to spend his time running Echo Pond Farm. He was also an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and of course, gardening.

Terry’s outgoing personality, willingness to help others, and sense of humor will not soon be forgotten. He would go above and beyond to help anyone, whether you needed an extra set of hands, help figuring out how to fix something that broke, problem-solving, or someone to lend an ear when you needed the support. He was always a phone call or a stop away. He believed that you were only as good as your word and respect was something you earned.

Terry kept his family and friends entertained with his word puns. A favorite of his to tease his wife with—"Are you alright?  Yeah. You can’t be, you must be half left.” And of course, all his stories—From growing up on the farm to adventures that almost got him in trouble (and the few times he got caught), he could keep you entertained for hours.

He loved spending time with everyone that stopped by the farm, a quick stop-in always turned into a few hours and a couple of projects (and the promise of stopping by again to help with a few more). He was always truly grateful for the help and loved helping others too. Plus, it gave him a reason to throw his favorite event, the year-end hay party, which over the years grew to be the neighborhood party.

Terry leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Colleen (O’Rourke) Dykeman; his children, Patricia Corlett (Andrew) and James Dykeman (Alexandra) along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides his parents, Terry was predeceased by his siblings, Fred Jr., John, David, and Julie.

A celebration of Terry’s life will be held at the farm on May 27, watch Facebook for more details.

Memorial donations in Terry’s name may be made to the Duanesburg Volunteer Fire Company, 7073 Duanesburg Rd., Duanesburg, NY 12056, or to the Duanesburg Volunteer Ambulance Corps., 130 Cole Rd., Delanson, NY 12053
