Delanson- Thomas Charles “Skip” McGee of Delanson, NY passed away Thursday April 28, 2022. Born August 15, 1952 to Tom and Rose McGee, Tom grew up in Hicksville, Long Island until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1972. He was a proud veteran who served in Korea during the Vietnam War as a member of the 2nd Infantry Division.
After serving his country, and with the help of the GI bill, Tom studied chemistry at Alfred State College and began his career at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Having enjoyed his time in upstate NY during his hunting and fishing experiences as a young man, he moved to the capital district. Here, Tom started a family with Deborah Evans and attended Union College for computer science. Tom then worked for General Electric and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation until he retired in 2014.
Skip was known for his brilliant mind, wry sense of humor and welcoming nature. He particularly loved his annual hunting trips with his childhood friends from Long Island. If Tom was not at home watching a Yankees game or reading science magazines, he could be found at his favorite haunts, the Hillview Tavern and River Road House.
Tom leaves behind his two sons Casey and Chris, his sister Patti Malone and brother Mike McGee. Please celebrate Tom in the way he would love to be remembered, as a lifelong learner and the life of the party. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Adirondack Mountain Club through their website ADK.org.
Friends and relatives are invited to call at the White-Van Buren Funeral Home, 1779 Main Street, Delanson, on Friday evening May 6, 2022 from 4pm to 7pm. Military Honors will be held at Saratoga National Cemetery on a date to be determined.
